Jim Kyle: Taking Education Higher
Here are just a few of the challenges our state is facing:
- Tennessee’s unemployment rate is currently one of the nation’s top ten, at 10.8%. (BLS, Local Area Unemployment, June 2009)
- Tennesseans that have jobs aren’t making what they should. Average per capita income in Tennessee ranks in the lower third of our country, at 36th. (THEC, 2008)
- Tennessee lags behind other states when it comes to the all important category of educational attainment, which is the percentage of Tennesseans with college degrees. Only 23 % have a college degree. That’s the 7th lowest in the country! (THEC, 2008)
Jim Kyle believes education is the reason Tennesseans are paid less and have fewer job opportunities, and is going to take a long term approach towards reforming higher education.
As he said during his Gubernatorial announcement, “We are going to have a higher education system focused on graduating students, not enrolling them.”
In the coming months, the Kyle Education Plan will be introduced.
Jim Kyle will take Higher Education to a Higher Place.
